CJ
Hyperlung have gotten too instrument/song-oriented than when I saw them a few years ago. They used to have more percussion and noise, but now they're pretty boring.
Melt Banana should've been headlining this show, but unfortunately weren't. From Japan they came and awed the crowd. Screeching female vocals over a punky, chaotic, noise-rock bass/drums/guitar blur. The bassist and drummer were great, but the guitarist was really most amazing. He used about 6 or 7 effects pedals to create a sound, but he was also a fantastic player, using a slide and just playing with such intensity. If you missed the show go buy their first cd on Charnel House/Nux, if you can find it. They ''may'' have something coming out on Skin Graft, but we're not sure.
Smog is one guy playing guitar, with help from another guy and a woman. There were some people in the crowd talking during his quieter set, so it was a bit distracting. However, the music was good. He played stuff from his new album, as well as 'Julius Caesar". Good stuff from one musician.
The Red Krayola were last and the music was okay, but mainly this band is a lot of hype. We left after three songs because we didn't really like the vocals and they weren't all that great.
| |||
